About Me
I am a pre-pharmacy major at the University of Houston who is looking to attend pharmacy school in the near future and become a full-time pharmacist: monitoring health of patients in response to drug therapy, and advising both patients and physicians on the selection and dosages of prescriptions. |

I am a senior at Lawrence Central High School. I have cheered all four years at Lawrence Central and I am a active student in the Performing Arts Department. I volunteered in my music department, and helped other students who were struggling with their piano lessons. I am very active in my church also, I am a mime dancer in the praise dance ministry at my church. I will be attending Clark Atlanta in the Fall where I plan on majoring in Theatre Arts and minor in Computer Animation. |

About Me
I am a brave and confident individual who doesn’t let anything stop me from achieving my goals. When I found out I had autism from the University of Washington's Autism Center, I was filled with mixed emotions. I was shocked because I never thought that I had a disability. I was scared because I had no clue what autism was. I was relieved because I always thought that my shyness kept me from talking to my peers; I was proved wrong. I just didn’t know how to talk to them. But autism is not going to overrule my life. My dream of becoming a nurse far outweighs the challenges my case of high-functioning autism gives me.
I’m a compassionate person with a strong belief that no one should be treated differently because of his or her cultural differences. I met three girls from Somalia and we became fast friends. I learned that in Somalia few girls were educated because, in their country, females were expected to be stay-at-home wives and mothers. These girls’ families came to America so that their children would get the education they need to be successful. I helped them with their homework and class assignments, whether it was writing, math or science. I was the first person they came to when they needed help or just someone to talk to. We usually met after school to work on our homework together. When there were times I could not help them, I tried to direct them to someone else. I am a dedicated and hard-working student who has concern for others. This is one of my many cultural experiences in my life that I will treasure forever. When I commit to a task, you can depend on me to follow through and deliver positive results. I’m willing to put in the time and effort it takes to be successful. You can rely on me to do my part and take time to assist others along the way. A nursing education is expensive – I want to exercise my independence by raising the funds to pay for my college education on my own. It is vitally important to me to do this for myself. One psychologist told my parents that I would never be self-sufficient and would have to live in an assisted living home. I found his evaluation of me offensive because he’s wrong. All my life I’ve learned to take care of myself, and at times, take care of my Mom, Dad, and grandparents, too. A Chinese Proverb states that, “The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.” If I can handle my responsibilities as a child, I can certainly take care of myself as an adult.

About Me
I was born in the small town of Palestine, Texas, moving to Dallas in 2002. My parents are from Mexico and only have an elementary education. This Fall I will be the first woman in my entire family to attend a University. With a major in Psychology, my ultimate goal is to have my own practice as a Child Mental Health Therapist. Being an artist, I plan to incorporate music, art, theatre, and dance therapy into my practice. I am a promoter of the underserved and minorities which is partially why I chose this field. I truly want to make a difference. As far as background, I have done an externship with the Texas Speaker of the House; I am involved in organizations such as L.U.L.A.C., Rotaract, Phi Theta Kappa, and have been President of the Student Government Association for my College for the past year. Every organization I’m in does community service apart from what I do more outside of school like Reading Partners. This life is my passion. |
